Accessibility Statement
Effective May 28, 2026
BudgetBuckets is built for the people who actually run a home. That includes people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, magnifiers, or other assistive technologies. This statement explains where we stand and how you can reach us if something isn’t working.
1. Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We test major changes against this standard before shipping and review the public marketing pages and the core in-app surfaces (sign-in, dashboard, buckets, reports, recipes, shopping list) on a regular cadence.
2. Conformance status
We consider BudgetBuckets to be partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA. “Partially conformant” means some parts of the content may not fully meet the standard yet. We are actively working to close the gaps below.
What is conformant today
- Text color contrast meets WCAG AA across the public site and the in-app shell (slate-950 on slate-50/white backgrounds).
- All interactive controls (buttons, links, form fields) are reachable with the keyboard and show a visible focus ring.
- Images have descriptive alternative text where they convey information; decorative icons are marked
aria-hidden. - Form fields have associated labels and inline error messages that are announced by screen readers.
- Page structure uses semantic HTML (headings, lists, landmarks) and a single
h1per page. - Color is not used as the only way to convey information — budget status uses pills with text in addition to color.
Known issues we are working on
- The bank-statement preview dialog uses a wide table that can be hard to navigate on small screens with a screen reader. A reflow improvement is on the roadmap.
- The bucket icon set is rendered as decorative icons that are announced only by the bucket’s name. This is intentional, but we plan to add an option to use Lucide icons consistently across the entire app.
- Some animations (sidebar reveal, button press) ignore the user’s
prefers-reduced-motionsetting. We are auditing each animation.
3. Compatible technologies
BudgetBuckets is designed to work with the current and previous major version of:
- Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop.
- Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android.
- Screen readers: VoiceOver (macOS, iOS), NVDA and JAWS (Windows), TalkBack (Android).
The Service requires JavaScript and a modern browser to function. Browsers older than two years may not render the Service correctly.
4. Feedback
We want to know when something doesn’t work for you. Please tell us:
- By support ticket inside the app (the fastest path).
- By email at accessibility@budgetbuckets.app.
We aim to acknowledge feedback within 2 business days and to triage the underlying issue within 10 business days. If a fix needs more time, we will tell you and propose a workaround.
5. Assessment approach
The Service is self-assessed by the BudgetBuckets team using automated tooling and manual review. We have not yet engaged a third-party auditor; if you represent an organization that requires a formal audit (for example, a VPAT), email us and we will work with you.
6. Formal complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the appropriate body in your country — for example, the U.S. Department of Justice (ADA), the European Commission, or your national equality authority.
Questions? Open a support ticket inside the app, or email legal@budgetbuckets.app.
